Lists and ranges with IN and BETWEEN
When a column can match any of several values, IN is shorter than a chain of ORs:
SELECT name, city
FROM customers
WHERE city IN ('Leeds', 'York', 'Sheffield')BETWEEN checks a range, including both ends:
SELECT name, list_price
FROM products
WHERE list_price BETWEEN 10 AND 20This includes products priced exactly £10 or £20. It works for dates too:
WHERE order_date BETWEEN '2026-03-01' AND '2026-03-31'A note on messy data
Brightwell's customer data has some cities typed as LEEDS or leeds . city IN ('Leeds') only
finds the ones typed exactly as Leeds. Real data is often like this. You'll learn to clean it up
