Join first, then summarise
Joins and GROUP BY work together: join to get the column you want to group by, then group.
Orders don't store a region, but their customers do:
SELECT c.region, COUNT(*) AS orders
FROM orders o
JOIN customers c ON c.id = o.customer_id
GROUP BY c.regionThe join runs first, giving one row per order with its customer's details attached. Then the rows are grouped by region and counted.
Group by the name you'll show, or by an id and the name together if two things might share a name (two employees called Sam Patel, say).
